MVP Development Timeline: From Idea to Launch in 12 Weeks
Most "MVP in 4 weeks" promises end in a half-baked demo that can't handle real users. Here's what a realistic timeline looks like when you're building something meant to generate revenue.
Weeks 1–2: Discovery Sprint
This is where most projects are won or lost. We define:
- Who the product is for (and who it's not for)
- The 3-5 core features that matter for launch
- User flows and wireframes
- Technical architecture and stack decisions
- A fixed estimate for the build phase
Deliverable: Product blueprint document. You know exactly what you're paying for before committing.
Weeks 3–4: Design + Foundation
UI/UX design happens in parallel with backend foundation:
- High-fidelity mockups for core screens
- Database schema and API architecture
- Authentication and authorization setup
- CI/CD pipeline and staging environment
First demo at end of week 4. You see working software, not slides.
Weeks 5–8: Core Build
This is where the product takes shape. Bi-weekly demos mean you see progress every two weeks and can course-correct early.
- Core features implemented end-to-end
- Third-party integrations (payments, APIs, email)
- Responsive design across devices
- Error handling and edge cases
Weeks 9–10: Polish + QA
- Performance optimization
- Cross-browser and device testing
- Security audit and hardening
- Analytics integration (you need data from day one)
- Content and copy finalization
Weeks 11–12: Launch
- Production deployment
- DNS, SSL, domain configuration
- Monitoring and alerting setup
- Knowledge transfer and documentation
- Launch support and initial user feedback
After Launch: Iteration
The product is live, but the work isn't over. This is where analytics start telling you what's working and what's not. Monthly iteration sprints keep the product improving based on real data.
